A Mr. Greeley filly named Comeon Dixie blazed through an eighth of a mile in :10 to lead the way in Monday's second session of workouts for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's March select sale of 2-year-olds in training. The chestnut filly was produced from the 8-year-old Dixieland Band mare Dixieland Blues, who is a half-sister to added-money winner Denim Yenem (by Ogygian). The filly is consigned to the March sale by Shanbally Acres, agent. She was bred by Cheryl A. Curtin.
Three horses shared the fastest workout time for a quarter mile of 21 3/5 seconds. They were an End Sweep--Better Half filly, consigned by Mark Casse, agent for her breeder Sez Who Thoroughbreds; a Double Honor--Dance Somar colt, consigned by Nick de Meric, agent; and a Valid Expectations--Holy Bugs filly , consigned by Casse as agent. A half-sister to stakes winner Live Wire Lil (by Geiger Counter), the Double Honor colt was purchased by de Meric for $35,000 at the 2001 OBS August yearling sale. A half-sister to stakes winner Belle's Appeal (by Valid Appeal), the Valid Expectations filly was bred in Kentucky by Douglas S. Arnold and was bought back for $70,000 at last year's Keeneland September yearling auction.
Another round of workouts for the March auction will be conducted on March 16 and 17. The sale is scheduled for March 19 and 20, beginning at 11 a.m. (EST) each day.
