Millionaire Shine Again Retired

Millionaire Shine Again, who just missed winning the Oct. 25 First Flight Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont by a neck after winning the previous two runnings, will head to breeder/owner Allaire du Pont's Woodstock Farm near Chesapeake City, Md., for her retirement. Trained by Allen Jerkens, 6-year-old Shine Again won or placed in 20 stakes from 34 starts .

"We thought about running her one more time, but decided this would be it," said du Pont, who raced her in the name of Bohemia Stable.

One of the New York's top sprinting distaffers the last three years, Shine Again (Wild Again--Shiner, by Two Punch) captured the 2001-02 Ballerina Handicap (gr. I) at Saratoga in two of her 14 career wins and came within a nose of winning this year's running. Also this year, she won the Genuine Risk Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont over Carson Hollow. Shine Again retires with earnings of $1,271,840.

Shiner remains a member of du Pont's broodmare band and is in foal to Forest Wildcat. Breeding plans for Shine Again have not been decided.
