Futural, a disappointing 12th in the Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) in early March, returns to the races Wednesday in an optional claiming/allowance race at Hollywood Park. The 6-year-old horse looks to regroup for the spring and summer handicaps in the 7 1/2-furlong race.
The Craig Dollase-trained son of Future Storm won last year's Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I) on the track but was subsequently disqualified and placed third. Prior to that, he finished second to Skimming in the Californian Stakes (gr. II) and won a pair of grade II events -- the Mervyn Leroy and San Bernardino Handicaps.
Also entered in Wednesday's race are a pair of 4-year-old sons of Twining -- Oklahoma Derby (gr. III) winner Top Hit and Pie N Burger, who finished third in the 2001 San Pedro stakes (gr. III) -- and Ack Ack Stakes winner Lethal Instrument.
The race goes off as the seventh race on Wednesday's card and is the fifth leg of the pick six. No perfect tickets were wagered on Sunday's guaranteed $1 million pick six resulting in a carryover of $683,636 for Wednesday's pick six.
