Gary A. Tanaka's Sarafan, runner-up in the Oak Tree Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IIT), was scratched out of Saturday's Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT).

Trainer Neil Drysdale informed Breeders' Cup officials that the 6-year-old gelding was not vanned from Hollywood Park to Santa Anita because "it looks as if he might be coming down with something...He's dull and his blood count is poor."

Drysdale said he would monitor the son of Lear Fan before determining whether to continue on plans to run Sarafan in the Japan Cup (Jp-I) and Hong Kong International Cup (HK-I).

"We'll back off him for now and see how he does in coming days," Drysdale said.

Bred in Ireland, Sarafan has won eight of 34 career starts, with $2,357,871 in earnings.
