Woodbine Entertainment Group announced Thursday that a purse increase at Woodbine will go into effect Sunday.
The purse hike, worth $3.1 million over the course of the season, will increase the purses of allowance, maiden special weight, and claiming races of $32,000 and higher, as well as four stakes events.
The purses of the Nassau Stakes, the Summer Stakes, the Canadian Stakes, and the Sky Classic Stakes -- each a Canadian group II race -- will all see a $50,000 increase. Allowance and maiden special weight purses will rise 7.5 percent, and purses of claiming races qualifying for the purse hike will go up five percent.
The purse hike is the 10th in the last five years at the Canadian track, with the last previous purse boost beginning at the start of the current meet.
