O'Brien Keeps 13 Entered for July Cup
Johannesburg the 2001 champion begins his sprint career in the July Cup.
Aidan O'Brien has entered 13 horses, including his two classic winners so far this season, Rock Of Gibraltar and Landseer, for Europe's premier sprint, the Darley July Cup (Eng-I) at Newmarket on July 11. He has also entered the horse considered by most to be an unlucky loser of the Sagitta 2000 Guineas, Hawk Wing.

Probably one of his most likely contenders for the six-furlong contest is Eclipse Award winner Johannessburg. Last year's champion 2-year-old disappointed in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and is now expected to target Europe's top sprints.

Saeed bin Suroor has six entries for Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin operation, including the fourth horse home in the race last year, Three Points, and the well-regarded 3-year-olds Meshaheer and Waldenburg.

Sheikh Mohammed's Darley stud, which has supported the Darley July Cup since 1996, has signed a new three year agreement taking the sponsorship through to 2004.

Morluc, trained by Randy Morse, who failed by only a short head to land the Hong Kong Sprint (HK-II) at Sha Tin last December, may travel from the United States for the race.
