A licensing deal announced today by Youbet.com may put live odds and online audio and video streaming of selected races on ESPN.com as early as this weekend.
"This is right in line with the new marketing philosophy we adopted six months ago of working with industry partners to attract new fans to the sport and convert those fans to players," said David Marshall, chief executive officer of Youbet.com, a California-base online horse racing and wagering service.
The one-year licensing agreement was actually struck with Winnercomm, a sports television production company that operates the horse racing section of ESPN.com. Under the terms of the agreement, Youbet.com will provide morning line odds and live odds in addition to the audio and video streaming.
"We are especially pleased to have finalized this agreement in advance of the Belmont Stakes," Marshall said. "Following our internal record-setting success surrounding the Kentucky Derby and Preakness action, we are looking forward to strong levels of Youbet Network actitivity."
The deal is expected to generate an extra 7,000 to 9,000 unique visitors to Youbet.com's Web site, according to Marshall.
