Keeneland's honoring of four central Kentucky counties during the fall meeting concludes on Friday with the $100,000-added Bourbon County, a race for 2-year-olds at 8 1/2 furlongs on the turf.

Twelve evenly matched colts and geldings were entered in the Bourbon County. Many of the entrants have raced against one another this year and all them have experience on the grass.

Courtlandt Farm's Commendation followed his maiden victory on the turf with a third-place finish behind fellow Bourbon County entrant Bachelor Blues in the Summer Stakes at Woodbine in Canada. The grey son of Capote won his next start at Keeneland and could turn the tables on Bachelor Blues, who was soundly beaten in the Grey Breeders' Cup in his next start. Trainer Graham Motion will give a leg-up to Cornelio Velasquez.

William Schettine's Bachelor Blues seems to prefer the turf. The son of Smoke Glacken has never been worse than second on the sod for trainer Josie Carroll. If his race in the Grey Breeders‚ Cup can be ignored, he will be tough to beat. Robby Albarado has the call.

Freedom Counts will attempt to stretch his speed in the Bourbon County. The Robert S. Mitchell Trust colorbearer captured the Kimberlite Pipe Stakes at Kentucky Downs in his latest trip to the post. Trainer Randy Morse always wins his share of turf races and Keeneland‚s third all-time leading rider, Shane Sellers will ride.

Grand Heritage won the Continental Mile at Monmouth in August but was unplaced in the Summer Stakes behind Bachelor Blues and Commendation. Trainer Bill Mott's stable has been relatively quiet during the fall meeting but a victory here would give him three winners at the stand. Jockey Rene Douglas will sport the famous green and white silks of Mrs. Bertram R. Firestone.
