James Routsong's Megan's Bluff, a 5-year-old mare who has won stakes races at Churchill Downs in each of the past three years, faces eight rivals in Saturday's $150,000-added Locust Grove Handicap (gr. III) for older fillies and mares on the turf.
Megans Bluff, a daughter of Pine Bluff trained by John Hennig, notched her third stakes win in as many years under the Twin Spires on May 18 when she rallied to win the Early Times Mint Julep (gr. III). She defeated Locust Grove rivals Cozy Island and Solvig that day and faces an even more formidable task Saturday as her list of opponents includes invaders from New York and California.
Megans Bluff brings a record of 8-8-4 in 26 races and career earnings of $743,263 into the Locust Grove. Megans Bluff is listed at odds of 8-1 in the morning line She was assigned 118 pounds and regular jockey Craig Perret will ride.
The roster of contenders is headed by Green Hills Farm's Voodoo Dancer, a grade I-winning invader from New York or trainer Christophe Clement. The 4-year-old daughter of Kingmambo is coming off a third-place finish in the Gamely Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. I) at Hollywood Park on May 27.
Jose Santos will ride Voodoo Dancer, who has been installed as the 8-5 favorite and will carry highweight of 120 pounds.
