Trainer Bobby Frankel has reconsidered retiring his grade I-winning mare Starine. The 5-year-old daughter of Mendocino didn't rebound particularly well from her head loss to Astra in the May 27 Gamely Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park and Frankel announced her retirement about five weeks later. He recently changed his mind.
"We'll try to work things out," Frankel said. "We'll know in a couple of weeks."
Starine, who was produced from the Kaldoun mare Grisonnante, won three of nine starts after Frankel bought her. Those wins included victories in last year's Matriarch Stakes (gr. IT) at Hollywood and the Diana Handicap (gr. IIT) at Saratoga. Starine, who was a stakes winner in her native France, carries a career record of nine wins from 31 starts and earnings of $963,891.
