Mrs. John Magnier's Old Deuteronomy, part of Irish trainer Aidan P. O'Brien's powerful aresenal, will not be shipped to Southern California for Saturday's Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Santa Anita.
A Breeders' Cup official said the reason for the defection by Storm Cat -- Jewel in the Crown (by Seeking the Gold) colt was not immediately known and that they were waiting for a veterinary report to be sent from Ireland.
The winner of one of six races and multiple group-placed, Old Deuteronomy was one of two O'Brien horses pre-entered in the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I).
As a result of the defection, Everest Stable's
Mambo Train will draw into the race.
