McDynamo Blasts Off in Breeders' Cup 'Chase

Michael J. Moran's McDynamo drew away the field after the 13th fence and sped off in the stretch to deliver a 15 1/4-length thrashing in the $175,000 Breeders' Cup Steeplecase Stakes (NSA-I) at Far Hills, New Jersey.

The 6-year-old gelding won before a crowd of more than 50,000 at Moorland Farms. The Breeders' Cup Steeplechase, the richest race in the U.S. for jumpers, was the main attraction of the annual one-day Far Hills Race Meeting.

Pelagos finished second with Mulahen third. McDynamo ran the 2 5-8 miles in 5:24 over 14 hurdles.

McDynamo is unbeaten in both starts over hurdles this year, having also won the Royal Chase at Keeneland by 7 1/2 lengths in April.

He has run three races at Far Hills and has won easily each time.

``I think it's a stamina-type course and that suits him,'' said jockey Craig Thornton who flew in from New Zealand for the mount. ``He's got a lovely gallop. He trains on a hill and I think he's well suited to the course.''

The victory made McDynamo the front-runner for the Eclipse Award as the leading steeplechaser. Sanna Hendriks trains the winner.
