Beat Hollow, Rock of Gibraltar and Astra are their division's respective early choices as a total of less than $8,000 was wagered on the opening day of Pool Two of the Breeders' Cup Future Bet.
The wagering, which continues Saturday and Sunday around the country, is for the John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf, the Breeders' Cup Mile and the Breeders' Cup Fillies & Mare Turf. The races will be run Oct. 26 at Arlington Park as part of the seven-race Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships.
In the $2 million Breeders' Cup Turf at 1 1/2 miles, Great Britain's Beat Hollow is the early 2-1 favorite among the 24 entries, with Irish-bred High Chaparral second choice at 5-2. The field is 11-1, followed by Sakhee, 13-1, Skipping (GB), 14-1, Denon, 15-1 and Golan (Ire), 18-1. A total of $2,794 was wagered.
In the $1 million Breeders' Cup Mile, Irish-bred Rock of Gibraltar took early command at odds of 3-5. The field is listed at 10-1, followed by Keltos (FR), 12-1, Del Mar Show, 13-1, and Volponi, 14-1. Wagering totaled $3,062.
In the $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at 1 1/4 miles, Astra is the early favorite at 3-1. Dublino is at 9-1, followed by the field and Golden Apples (Ire), both at 11-1. Defending champion Banks Hill (GB), Kazzia (Ger) and England's Legend (FR) are all at 12-1, while Tates Creek, 16-1, and French breds Aquarelliste and Terre A Terre, all drew support as well.
