Thursday's business at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale (Part Two) turned over 1,185,300 guineas at an average of 11,077gns and a 7,000gns median, on a healthy day's trading that saw three lots exceed the previous record price of 47,000gns set 12 months ago by a Mind Games gelding.

Peter Goulandris' Hesmonds Stud now holds the sale record after agent Penny Barnes paid 56,000gns for a sister to Ticker Tape (GB), who went on to finish second in Thursday's £100,000 race for graduates of this sale.

"The family could do anything and she is by a good sire but she was bought to race – we'll just have to see what she does," said Barnes, who outbid Johnny McKeever to buy the filly from Car Colston Hall Stud.

Trainer Michael Bell, based two furlongs from the sales complex, will take charge of the other two lots to breach the previous record, both of whom made 50,000gns. The pair, bought through the Kern/Lillingston Association, were a first-crop Namid (GB) colt who will race for owner Derek Higgins, and a Mister Baileys filly bought from Usk Valley Stud for an undisclosed owner.

The sale concludes Friday.
