Spinning World, winner of the 1997 Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT), collected his first group I success in Melbourne Oct. 15 when jockey Damien Oliver had a grand day out at Caulfield with Special Harmony. The 11-4 favorite, Special Harmony won the One Thousand Guineas for 3-year-old fillies by 2 1/4 lengths over Hinting. The 1:35.48 time for the 1,600 meters shaved 2/100ths of a second from the race record for the $500,000 (Australian funds) event. Special Harmony is scheduled to attempt the Victoria Oaks (Aust-I) on November 7.

A Coolmore stallion, Spinning World (Nureyev -- Imperfect Circle, by Riverman) currently stands at the outfit's Australian branch.
