Bobby Frankel said Tuesday that Ruffian Handicap (gr. I) winner Wild Spirit will not run in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I), and will be given time off to point for next year's campaign. Frankel worked Peace Rules, Aldebaran, and Midas Eyes at Hollywood Park.
"I talked the owner out of it," Frankel said. "He was being pressured anyway, and was happy with it. I told him she had puffy ankles and it would be wiser to save her for next year."
Wild Spirit, owned by Sumaya Us Stable, has won three of her fours starts in this country, capturing the Shuvee (gr. II) and Delaware Handicaps (gr. II) in addition to the Ruffian.
On Tuesday, Frankel worked Aldebaran and Midas Eyes in company. Midas Eyes broke off in front of Aldebaran, who finished a length in front at the wire under jockey Jose Valdivia. Clockers gave Aldebaran 1:13 1/5 for the 6 furlongs, with Midas Eyes getting the distance in 1:13 3/5. Both horses will be pre-entered in the Sprint (gr. I). Also working 6 furlongs was Mile (gr. IT) candidate Peace Rules, who went in 1:12 2/5.
"Everything is looking good," said Frankel who recently arrived in California after getting married on Sunday. "Medaglia d'Oro looks fantastic. I'll probably work him next on the 19th."
Frankel will also be represented in the World Thoroughbred Chmapionships by Sightseek in the Distaff, and Tates Creek, Heat Haze, and Megahertz in the Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT).
