Smoke Glacken's Fee Rises to $25,000
Gainesway Farm stallion Smoke Glacken, whose son Smokume remained unbeaten after winning the Oct. 12 Cowdin Stakes at Belmont Park, will have his fee upped to $25,000 from $15,000. Smoke Glacken's progeny earnings for the year are $3.6 million."My feeling is he is moving his mares up," said farm director of sales Michael Hernon about the champion sprinter by Two Punch out of the Magesterial mare Majesty's Crown. "He's in the top 10 on the juvenile sire list and is prominent on the general sire list. He has an unbeaten juvenile who was impressive winning the Cowdin. The clear message coming through to me is he has made the transition from top racehorse to very proven stallion. Last year, he bred his best book of mares to date."Smoke Glacken will be bred to approximately 100 mares in 2004. The fee has gone up but the supply, while still liberal, will not be in the 150-plus mare size book. This year he covered 101 mares."
