Godolphin's grade II winner E Dubai, who set the pace for the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I), has been retired and will enter stud at Sheikh Mohammed's Darley at Jonabell near Lexington. He is scheduled to arrive this week and will stand for $15,000.
Bred by Arthur B. Hancock III and Stonerside Stable, 4-year-old E Dubai scored his major win in this year's Suburban Handicap (gr. II) over Lido Palace and Macho Uno and captured last year's Dwyer Stakes (gr. II). His three runner-up efforts were all in graded stakes: the Travers Stakes (gr. I) to Point Given, the Super Derby XXII (gr. I), and the Peter Pan Stakes (gr. II).
A $1.35 million Keeneland September yearling, E Dubai (Mr. Prospector -- Words of War, by Lord At War) spent the winter of 2001 in Dubai in preparation for that year's Kentucky Derby (gr. I). He won his only race there, and was shipped over for Derby, but never started.
E Dubai, who ended up 11th in the Classic, retires with five wins and three seconds from 11 starts and $920,800 in earnings. Complete list of First Year Stallions of 2003
