Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone tasted her first victory in more than three years Thursday when she piloted Jade Vixen to an easy win in the eighth race at Hollywood Park.
The 39-year-old Krone began her comeback at Santa Anita on Friday.
Career victory 3,546 came in a $25,000 maiden claimer for fillies and mares, the only mount Krone had on the Thursday card. Jade Vixen, a 3-year-old Kentucky bred filly by Jade Hunter, was trained by Jose DeLima and owned by DeLima and D. Barber.
Krone flashed a big smile and a "number one" gesture for the camera as she came across the finish line an easy winner. Jade Vixen paid $3.80 for the win.
"That was for Jose," she said afterward.
Hollywood Park President Rick Baedecker joined the large group in the winner's circle after the race.
Krone said she is adjusting to California racing, but the mounts have not come easily. She rode just one race at Hollywood Park Wednesday and had five over the weekend at Santa Anita.
"On the East Coast, I would ride 19 races a day," she told TVG. "It's definitely a different game out here, but I think I'm figuring it out.
"Hollywood Park has been great to me and I really like it here in California," she added.
