Saarland, who has not raced since finishing 10th in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), is entered in Aqueduct's sixth race Friday, a $50,000 mile allowance on the dirt. The day after the Derby veterinarian Mark Cheney found a chip in Saarland's left front fetlock which was later removed. The 3-year-old son of Unbridled has been back at the track since late this summer. He had his first work at Saratoga in August.
Saarland, who races for his breeder, Cynthia Phipps, is part of a two-horse entry in the Aqueduct allowance. Four-year-old Easing Along (Storm Cat--Cadillacing, by Alydar) races for Ogden Mills Phipps. Shug McGaughey trains both colts.
