Cee's Stable's Tizbud, the full brother of 2000 Horse of the Year Tiznow and multiple Grade II winner Budroyale, broke his maiden easily in a 1 1/16-mile special weight event Thursday at Hollywood Park.
The $43,000 maiden test was the third career start for the strapping 3-year-old homebred son of Cee's Tizzy, who had been out of action since August, when he caught a fever following a lackluster fifth-place finish at Del Mar for trainer John Sadler.
Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Tizbud broke alertly and took control of the pace, which went in fractions of :23.14, :46.45 and 1:09.73. At the top of the stretch, Tizbud pulled away from the field and was gearing down at the end in a final time of 1:42.46. The winning margin over runner-up High and Low Vixen was about six lengths.
The 5-2 morning line favorite, Tizbud went off at 4-1 in a field of eight, paying $10, $6.20 and $4. High and Low Vixen returned $11.60 and $7.40. Seeking The Cat paid $3.60 for the show.
