Arc Winner Dalakhani Retired to Gilltown in Ireland
Dalakhani, who figures to be France's champion 3-year-old after winning three group I races, has been retired from racing and will take up stallion duty alongside his champion half-brother Daylami at the Aga Khan's Gilltown Stud in County Kildare, Ireland. An Aga Khan homebred. Dalakhani won the Oct. 5 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Lucien Barriere (Fr-I) and earlier this year took the Prix du Jockey-Club (Fr-I, the French Derby), Prix Lupin (Fr-I) and two other group II events. "We didn't see anything for him in the remaining fixtures, and didn't think he'd fancy Santa Anita (home for this year's Breeders' Cup)," said manager Patrick Downs.Dalakhani (Darshaan--Daltawa, by Miswaki) suffered his lone career defeat in the Budweiser Irish Derby (Ire-I) in June to another Aga Khan homebred, Alamshar. As a 2-year-old, Dalakhani captured the Criterium International (Fr-I) and Prix des Chenes (Fr-III). Dalakhani retires with eight wins from nine starts and earnings of $2,505,203. His fee is 45,000 euros (about $52,800. It earlier was announced that Alamshar was sold to the Japan Racing Association for stallion duty next year.
