Jockey Murphy Breaks Leg at Hawthorne

Jockey Glen Murphy broke his right leg in a spill during Hawthorne's ninth race on Wednesday.

Murphy was treated at Loyola Medical Center reportedly for a broken tibia and fibula. Medical Loyola medical personnel was examining him for further injuries.

Murphy's mount, Let's Tour was leading in mid-stretch when the horse shied away from the whip and ducked in quickly. Unable to stay aboard, Murphy fell to the turf as Let's Tour fell over him.

Murphy remained alert and conscious throughout and was transported by Hawthorne medical staff to Loyola.

Let's Tour jumped up quickly and was not injured in the fall.
