Euchre and Grey Memo, second and fourth, respectively, in last year's Native Diver Handicap (gr. III), will return for Saturday's 24th running of the $100,000 stakes race.
The Native Diver serves as a companion feature to the Hollywood Starlet. Eight older horses were entered in the 1 1/8- mile event.
Euchre was assigned high weight of 118 pounds, one more than Grey Memo, for the Native Diver. In addition to his fourth in last year's running, Grey Memo ran third in the 2000 Native Diver. Euchre was the even-money favorite last year when losing by one length to Momentum.
Trained by Bobby Frankel for Stronach Stable, Euchre is a 6-year-old gelding who has earned $900,145 from a 6-6-3 record in 25 starts. He has finished second in five of nine starts since victorious in the Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap (gr. III) on July 7, 2001.
Grey Memo has earned $1,359,659 for the partnership of Manzani, Ridgeley Farm and Sarno. The 5-year-old gray, trained by Warren Stute, recorded his biggest win on March 23 in the $1 million Godolphin Mile at Nad Al Sheba racecourse in the United Arab Emirates. His overall record is 8-3-7 in 41 starts.$100,000 Native Diver Handicap (gr. III), 3 & up, 1 1/8 mile
