Peter Nugent, a former director of Tattersalls in England and Ireland, died at age 83.
Nugent joined the auction company in 1971, having sold his first horse there as an auctioneer in 1961. He began to sell regularly there in 1965, and sold at Tattersalls and Tattersalls (Ireland) until his retirement following the 1989 December sales.
He became a member of the board in 1983.
"I know that the bloodstock industry in Ireland and the UK will morn Peter," current Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony, who began as an assistant to Nugent, said. "He was without doubt the greatest bloodstock auctioneer to have stood on a rostrum this side of the Atlantic."
