Five high profile out-of-town trainers will converge on Laurel Park Saturday for the $100,000 Anne Arundel Stakes (grade III) for 3-year old fillies. Fourteen horses are expected in the 1 1/8-mile test.
Maryland Jockey Club handicapper Frank Carulli has tabbed the Pat Byrne conditioned Desert Gold as the 2-1 favorite. The daughter of Seeking The Gold has won two straight in Kentucky since finishing sixth in the grade III Duchess at Woodbine this summer. Shane Sellers will be aboard.
Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey will ride To The Queen for trainer Bill Mott. The daughter of Deputy Minister has won four straight in New York this fall and is the second choice in the morning line (5-2).
Shug McGaughey is sending Database (12-1) down from his Belmont base off an impressive win at Aqueduct last month. Todd Pletcher will ship in Tarnished Lady (20-1), who has been in the money in 10 of 13 starts, including a second in the grade I Coaching Club American Oaks at Belmont this summer. Ben Perkins is bringing Sideways (30-1) in off a victory at The Meadowlands in November.
Four Maryland stakes winners await the shippers.
Martha's Music (10-1) won the grade III Martha Washington Breeders' Cup at Laurel in July. True Sensation (20-1) has won a pair of state-bred stakes on this surface, including the Twixt Stakes three weeks ago. Pass The Virtue (20-1) has three stakes wins to her credit, including a 5 1/4-length victory in the Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes on the De Francis Dash undercard last month. Undercover (6-1) wired the field in the Maryland Million Oaks at Pimlico in October.
Rounding out the field are Pupil (8-1), Knocking (12-1), Amazing Lady (15-1), Shop Till You Drop (20-1) and Running Wonder (30-1).
