Owners and breeders must attempt to name foals of 2001 by Feb. 1 to avoid a $50 late fee, The Jockey Club said.
The Jockey Club has published on its Web site a list of 47,120 names released from active use Jan. 1. The majority of the released names are those for horses more than 10 years old that have not raced or been bred during the preceding five years.
The list of recently released names and the online Names Book are available through the "Name a Thoroughbred" icon at http://home.jockeyclub.com Owners and breeders who name Thoroughbreds electronically receive their first choice about 75% of the time, The Jockey Club said. More than 60% of names are processed via the Internet.
