Juddmonte Farms' homebred Senure rallied from last in the field of eight to win the $76,450 Steinlen Handicap by a half-length Sunday at Hollywood Park. Under Victor Espinoza, the 2-1 favorite entered the stretch four-wide and caught Self Feeder in deep stretch to earn the $48,450 winner's share of the purse. On firm turf, Senure completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1:39.70.
Self Feeder, who won last year's renewal of the race, finished second, a length ahead of Robynhood. Iridanos was fourth, followed by Smile Again, Expressionist, Wales, and Casino King.
The win marks the second stakes win on the year for Senure (Nureyev--Diese, by Diesis), who also won the Fastness Handicap (gr. IIIT) in April at Hollywood Park. After winning the Fastness, Senure finished fourth in the Charles Whittingham Handicap (gr. IT) before going on an extended layoff. The win marks the fifth win in 13 career races for the Bobby Frankel-trained 4-year-old colt.
Senure returned $6, $3.20 and $2.80. Self Feeder paid $4.20 and $3 and Robynhood was worth $3.60 to show. The $1 exacta paid $12.30. (Chart, Equibase
