Brancusi, scheduled to make his first start in Thursday's fourth race since finishing 16th and last in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), was scratched from the one-mile turf race.
"Yesterday (Wednesday) he just galloped a slow mile," trainer Patrick Biancone said of the $375,000 son of Deputy Commander owned by Michael Tabor.
"He went, 40, 40, 40, nice and relaxed and came back dead lame behind, and this morning he's sound. We have to find out what he had, but X-rays showed nothing. He had something, but we have to find out what it is."
