Trainer Ron McAnally said the reason he decided to skip the Breeders' Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge (gr. I) with Candy Ride is because the colt has very small feet, and he feels he needs to give him time to let them spread out.

"I felt, because of his small feet, we needed to take his shoes off and allow the feet to spread out naturally," McAnally said. "We're looking at next year's Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) and Dubai World Cup (UAE-I), and if we ran in the Breeders' Cup, then I'd have to keep him in training to get ready for those races, and that would put a lot of pressure on his feet. Add that to the $800,000 supplementary fee, and I just felt that running in the Classic was not the right thing to do. He's doing great and is perfectly sound, but the horse always comes first, and this is the best thing for the horse if we want to have him around next year. He's really only a 3-year-old, and there's always next year's Breeders' Cup."

The Argentine-bred Candy Ride, owned by Sid and Jenny Craig, is undefeated in six career starts, including three victories in the United States. In his last start, he broke Del Mar's track record for a mile and quarter, winning the Pacific Classic (gr. I) over Medaglia d'Oro.
