With five group races due to take place at this year's Cambridgeshire Meeting, the leader board in the Ruinart Champions Challenge could change dramatically. John Dunlop has proven what strength in depth he has in his Arundel yard, winning three group races at Newmarket this year with three different horses. However, his slender two-point lead over Sir Michael Stoute, Dermot Weld and John Gosden is sure to be put under pressure this weekend.
A surprising omission from the leader board at present is Aidan O'Brien, but it would be no surprise to see him pick up points with his Ballydoyle string now in top gear.
Points have been awarded for all group races at Newmarket this season, with a group I worth 10, a group II worth six, and a group III worth three points. There's plenty still to play for as there is a total of 32 points up for grabs at the Cambridgeshire Meeting.
The leading trainer after Champions' Day (October 18) (on which the last group races of the season at Newmarket are run) wins his or her weight in Ruinart Champagne.
Michael Bell, Clive Brittan, James Fanshawe, Richard Hannon and Mark Johnston all currently have six points
Roger Charlton and Bryan McMahon both have 3 points.
