Edited from a Newmarket release

The two group I events at Newmarket on Champions' Day, Saturday, Oct. 18, promise to provide superb end-of-season highlights to the 2003 flat season following the forfeit stages, details of which were announced Oct. 1.

There are 40 horses going forward for the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes, this year carrying £400,000 in prize money, and 40 juveniles remaining in the season's top 2-year-old event, the £230,000 Darley Dewhurst Stakes.

Emirates Airline Champion Stakes acceptors include the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes and Budweiser Irish Derby (Ire-I) winner Alamshar, Vodafone Derby (Eng-I) victor Kris Kin, last year's Epsom winner High Chaparral, Seabiscuit St Leger (Eng-I) winner Brian Boru and Sagitta One Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) heroine Russian Rhythm.

The lightly raced Ikhtyar, the apple of trainer John Gosden's eye, is another entered as are the 2001 winner Nayef, German group I scorer Ransom O'War, 2002 Fillies' Mile heroine Soviet Song, Yesterday, winner of the Irish One Thousand Guineas (Ire-I) in May, the Amanda Perrett-trained Carnival Dancer, a dual group III winner in France this year, last year's Darley Dewhurst Stakes victor Tout Seul and dual French group I winner Vespone, who has not run since being purchased by Godolphin.

The 2003 Darley Dewhurst Stakes promises to be an outstanding event. Aidan O'Brien's keeps 13 in the race, namely Acropolis, Antonius Pius, Colossus, the well-regarded Grand Reward, Haydn, Magritte, Newton, Old Deuteronomy, The Mighty Tiger, Troubadour, Tumblebrutus, Tycoon and Wolfe Tone.

But whichever horses O'Brien chooses to run he will have it far from his own way with other entries including Coventry Stakes winner Three Valleys, the David Loder-trained Kheleyf, his stablemate Byron, recent winner of the group II Mill Reef Stakes at Doncaster, Doncaster's group II Champagne Stakes winner Lucky Story, trained by Mark Johnston, group II Gimcrack Stakes victor Balmont, Saturday's group II Hackney Empire Royal Lodge Stakes winner Snow Ridge, French raider Diamond Green and the Dermot Weld-trained Grey Swallow.

Lisa Hancock, Newmarket's Managing Director, said: "Year after year the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes and Darley Dewhurst Stakes attract line-ups that help determine which horses will be crowned champions of their generations and both races in 2003 promise plenty."
