Call Me Lefty, winner of two Texas Stallion stakes, was voted horse of the meet for the 2002/03 Sam Houston Race Park meeting. The 3-year-old Texas-bred is owned and bred by the Christine S. Moore Family Limited Partnership and is trained by Tommie Morgan. He was also named top 3-year-old of the meet.
He won the $125,000 Texas Stallion Stakes on Dec. 28 and the $75,000 Texas Stallion Stakes on Feb. 15. Away from Sam Houston, he ran second in the Lecomte Stakes (gr. III) at Fair Grounds. He is a son of Aggie Southpaw out of the Irish Open mare Naughty Pam.
Dr. Glen Warren's Candid Glen was voted turf champion of the meet for the third year in a row. In the last three years Candid Glen has won Sam Houston's premier turf event, the Connally Breeders' Cup Turf Stakes.
Ackerley Brothers Farm's Term Sheet was voted champion Texas-bred of the meeting. Claimer of the meet was Charles McKamie's Wayne's Princess. Owner/trainer Tom Warren's Fleeta Dif was voted the top filly/mare of the meet. Other awards will be presented on March 30, the final day of the stand.
