Sheikh Hamdan's Shadwell Stud announced that homebred champion and millionaire Nayef has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud in England. The 5-year-old son of Gulch is the last offspring of champion and dominant broodmare Height of Fashion (by Bustino). Champion half-brothers Nashwan and Unfuwain stood for their entire careers there.

Nayef won nine of 19 starts and earned $3,594,157 in his career. This year, he won the Prince of Wales's Stakes (Eng-I) and placed in the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I), Coral-Eclipse Stakes (Eng-I), and Juddmonte International Stakes (Eng-I).

Angus Gold, Sheikh Hamdan's racing manager, said. "Nayef is one of the toughest and most genuine horses I have ever come across. He really is an outstanding athlete, beautifully balanced and thoroughly consistent."

Nayef's other group I wins came in last year's Juddmonte International and the 2001 Dubai Champion Stakes, also in England. He was England's champion 3-year-old male at 9 1/2 to 11 furlongs in 2001, and was a champion in Dubai the following year..

Nayef's fee will be announced at a later date.
