The Tin Man, bound for John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf.
Ralph and Aury Todd's homebred The Tin Man will make his next start in the John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) on Oct. 25, trainer Richard Mandella said. The 5-year-old son of Affirmed finished fourth in last year's Turf at Arlington Park.
"He'll run in the long turf," Mandella said. "He's doing really well right now. He needed a little bit of a break, so I decided to wait (for the Breeders' Cup). He runs really well fresh, so the timing is right for him."
The Tin Man, who last raced on Aug. 16 where he finished sixth in the Arlington Million (gr. IT), owns six victories from nine starts over the Arcadia oval's turf course, including last year's Clement L. Hirsch Handicap (gr. IT) and this year's San Luis Obispo Handicap (gr. IIT), which he won by 9 ½ lengths. From 17 career starts, he's won seven times, with four seconds and a third, for earnings of $953,620.
On Sunday, The Tin Man worked six furlongs in 1:11 3/5 over Santa Anita's fast main track.
