Despite his eye-catching performance in Saturday's $500,000 Vosburgh (gr. I), Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel said Stronach Stable's Ghostzapper is most likely done for the year."He's not going to run in the Breeders' Cup (Sprint)," Frankel said. "I'm being a realist. I know everyone was very impressed, but this is Belmont Park, not Santa Anita. He made his run on the turn and you can't do that at Santa Anita. He's the kind of horse you don't want to try to get through with him because he gets those clods in his face and he doesn't like that. Most likely, I'll put him away until the Carter next year, bring him back here and have him for the rest of the year. Maybe he could be the winner of the Met Mile next year."Ghostzapper was superb in victory Saturday, sustaining a huge rally to dominate the Vosburgh (gr. I) by 6 ½ lengths. Last early on, he powered by the field to finish in 1:14 3/5, just one-fifth of a second off the 6 1/2-furlong track record.
Frankel already has a strong hand in the Sprint with multiple grade I winner Aldebaran and possibly Midas Eyes. "Aldebaran comes through horses and he doesn't mind," Frankel said. "Aldebaran has run at Santa Anita twice and won twice. Ghostzapper is a young, immature horse. I can give him off the winter and make sure he's 100 percent sound for next year. Why mess him up this year when we could have a champion for next year? There's a slim chance of the Cigar Mile, but I don't think so."Juddmonte Farms' Heat Haze, third in the Flower Bowl Invitational (gr. IT), beaten by a length, will make her next start in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT)."I was impressed with the filly," Frankel said. "(Jockey Jose Valdivia Jr.) just gave her way too much to do. I was very disappointed with the way he rode her. He's trying to get behind a horse who's so slow, instead of just letting her break and go easy. He'll probably ride her back."
