Ridgewood Pearl, who won the 1995 Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT), died giving birth to a dead Bahri foal last week.
Bred by Sean Coughlan of Ireland and raced by his wife, Anne, Ridgewood Pearl was a group I winner in England, France, and Ireland, and a champion in the latter two. She captured the Mile in her final racetrack appearance and was retired with a European Horse of the Year title to her credit and a record of six wins from eight starts and earnings of $1,179,301.
Eleven-year-old Ridgewood Pearl (Indian Ridge -- Ben's Pearl, by Tap On Wood) produced five foals, four of which are named and of racing age. Her youngest offspring is an unnamed Rainbow Quest yearling colt.
