The starting gate will be filled to capacity for Saturday's $150,000 Martha Washington Breeders' Cup (gr. IIIT) with fourteen 3-year-old fillies entered in the 1-1/16th mile turf test at Pimlico.
The open field has combined to win 45 races and more than $1.75 million. Eight have won added money races.
Handicappers will have no easy task separating this classy field. Randaroo was tabbed as the lukewarm 9-2 favorite even though the Kiaran McLaughlin trainee has never been on the turf or raced at the distance. The daughter of Gold Case has competed against grade I company with off the board finishes in the Acorn and Prioress at Belmont Park this summer.
Maryland-bred Impolite, from the Linda Rice barn, and Gal O Gal, a winner of six of 13 on the grass, is each 5-1 on the morning line. Stakes winner Little Miss Pamela and the Michael Dickinson-trained Sarie Marais are next in line at 6-1.
"This is wide open race," said Jozbin Santana, who will ride Little Miss Pamela for the first time. "We got a nice post position (number three) and if she runs to form she'll have a good chance. There looks like a lot of speed in the race and she doesn't need to be on the front."
Last year's Maryland juvenile filly champion Coquettish is 8-1, while Feisty Bull is 10-1. A Queen's Smile and the Michael Gill owned entry of City Fire and Nault are 12-1.
Christophe Clement will ship Derrianne (15-1) in from New York with stable rider Brice Blanc.
The longest shots on the board at 20-1 are Chic Jury, Twining and Dining and multiple stakes winner Ladyecho, who has earned the most money in the field with nearly $285,000.
"I'm 20-1?" asked Rick Wilson, who will be aboard Ladyecho for the second time. "This is a competitive race. Feisty Bull hasn't run a bad race on the turf and she's 10-1. My horse is consistent and we have a good chance as any."Martha Wahington Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. IIIT), 3-year-old fillies, 1 1/16 mile on turf
