Breeders' Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge (gr. I) hopeful Congaree worked a bullet half-mile in :45 4/5 over Santa Anita's fast main track Thursday morning.
With regular exercise rider Dana Barnes aboard, the 5-year-old son of Arazi posted the fastest move of 28 at the distance on the day.
"It was a very good work, he went very well," trainer Bob Baffert said.
Baffert said that the Stonerside Stable homebred remains on track for the World Thoroughbred Championships and that he'll have a "bunch" more works before the Oct. 25 race.
Congaree last raced on Sept. 13 in the Kentucky Cup Classic Handicap (gr. II) where he finished second to Perfect Drift as the public's heavy favorite.
Baffert also sent Kentucky Cup Juvenile Filly winner Class Above out for a work Thursday. The filly logged five furlongs in :59 2/5, also with Barnes aboard. The Maryland-bred daughter of Quiet American, who won her the Kentucky Cup race by 16 lengths in her stakes debut, won't race again until the Breeders' Cup, according to Baffert.
"She was just cruisin' around there all nice," Baffert said of the bay filly's work.
Also working for Baffert was $2.7 million 2-year-old Diamond Fury, who went a half-mile in :46 3/5.
"He's doing good right now," Baffert said. "He popped a little quarter after his last race, but he's back doing really well now."
The maiden son of Sea of Secrets is expected to run next at Oak Tree.
Maiden winner Cooperation, nominated but not likely for the Oct. 4 Norfolk Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. II) for 2-year-olds, went a bullet 1:11 2/5 from the gate.
Also Thursday, Ancient Title Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. I) hopeful Zavata also worked from the gate, posting a five-furlong move in 1:11 3/5 for trainer Patrick Biancone.
