Political Intrigue, the dam of recent Shoemaker Breeders' Cup Mile Stakes (gr. IT) winner Redattore, was euthanized because of complications from laminitis on March 22. Four days prior to her death, the 14-year-old daughter of Deputy Minister -- Fascinating Trick, by Buckpasser, had produced a chestnut colt by Seeking the Gold at Craig and Holly Bandoroff's Denali Stud near Paris, Ky.
Bred by Kinghaven Farms in Canada, Political Intrigue was consigned at the age of three to the 1992 Keeneland January horses of all ages sale by Anderson Farms, agent. Albatroz Bloodstock purchased her for $23,000. Sent to Brazil, she was a winner on the racetrack. Prior to producing a 2001 colt by Redattore's sire, Roi Normand, she returned to North America in a deal that was brokered by John T. L. Jones Jr. of Walmac International near Lexington. Political Intrigue moved from Walmac to Denali in August of last year. At the time of her death, she was owned by Denali, Barry Weisbord's Executive Bloodstock, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jackson, Herb Moelis, Steve Holland, and Pete Bradley.
Political Intrigue's other offspring included Brave Lady (by Roi Normand), who finished second in a group III event in Brazil.
An earner of $1,442,736, Redattore has captured five added-money events in this country, including the 2001 Eddie Read Handicap (gr. IT). The 8-year-old horse also was a group I winner in Brazil, where he was bred by Haras Santa Ana do Rio Grande.
