Multiple grade I winners Sharp Cat and Habibti are among horses owned by The Thoroughbred Corp. that will be offered at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale in Kentucky. Formerly headed by the late Prince Ahmed Salman of Saudia Arabia, The Thoroughbred Corp. also plans to sell the dams of 2001 Horse of the Year Point Given and 2000 Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) winner Spain, along with Canadian champion Windsharp, who produced grade I winners Dessert and Johar. Other horses in the auction include a weanling full brother to Point Given and a weanling filly out of Sharp Cat. Dr. and Mrs. John Chandler's Mill Ridge Farm Sales will consign The Thoroughbred Corp.'s stock.
"This is a not a dispersal, but the continuation of the orderly reduction of his (Prince Ahmed's) Thoroughbred assets," said Terence Collier, who is associated with The Thoroughbred Corp. "A substantial number of yearlings were sold at Keeneland in September. A majority of his mares will be sold in November."
Mill Ridge's November consignment also will include Banshee Winds, the dam of champion Banshee Breeze. Banshee Winds is owned by Jim Tafel. A full sister to Banshee Breeze sold for $1.1 million at the recent Keeneland September yearling sale.
The Mill Ridge consignment will have 87 mares and 31 weanlings.
"This is truly a first class group of horses, both in terms of breeding stock and future racing stock," said Bayne Welker Jr., head of sales development for Mill Ridge. "The private breeders who have asked us to sell this November have spent many years acquiring and cultivating these bloodlines, and these horses are the fruits of those labors. The market is very favorable toward a true quality type mare."
Keeneland's November breeding stock sale begins on Nov. 3.
