Agent John Ferguson, representing Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, outbid agent John Warren to acquire a Dubai Millennium colt for 1.2-million Euros (about $1,373,965) to top the opening session of the Goff's Orby Sale in Ireland on Tuesday.

Consigned by Kilcarn Stud, the colt was produced from the Sadler's Wells mare Spirit of Tara, a full sister to dual classic winner Salsabil and a half-sister to group I winner and sire Marju.

The session's second-highest price of 420,000 Euros ($480,888) was paid by Shadwell Estate Co. for a Nureyev colt, also consigned by Kilcarn Stud. The colt is the first foal of the A. P. Indy mare Nuts in may, a half-sister to grade II winner Pleasantly Perfect.

Goffs reported 161 horses grossed 16,275,000 Euros, for an average price of 101,087 Euros. At the comparable session one year ago, 183 horses averaged 110,692 Euros from gross receipts of 20,146,000 Euros.

The sale concludes Wednesday.
