Turf Writer Bob Adair Dead
Kentucky Turf writer Bob Adair, who covered racing with uncommon thoroughness, died Sept. 19 at a Louisville hospital. He was 82.Several years ago, The Blood-Horse secured Adair's services in compiling the top 10 Kentucky Derbys of the 20th century. Adair was joined in the celebrated task by four other esteemed colleagues, and the group selected Secretariat's 1973 record triumph No. 1.Adair was assistant sports editor and/or sports editor for both the Lexington Herald and Lexington Leader from 1942-57. He covered racing and served as assistant sports editor for the Louisville Courier-Journal from 1957-85. He continued to keep close tabs on racing following his retirement.Adair's survivors include wife Louise and a son, Robert, and a daughter, Robin.
