Blazonry, winner of the Laz Barrera Memorial Stakes (gr. II) in his last start on May 26, worked six furlongs in a bullet 1:11.60 Sunday at Santa Anita for the $100,000-added Affirmed Handicap (gr. III) for 3-year-olds June 21 at Hollywood Park.
Mike Smith will again ride Blazonry, trained by Kathy Walsh for owner-breeder Sanford Robertson of San Francisco, in the 1 1/16-mile test. The Hennessy colt will make his third United States start after beginning his career in England.
Five accomplished colts are expected to form the nucleus of the Affirmed lineup: Blazonry, Smith, 118; Chief Planner, David Flores, 119; Eye Of The Tiger, Alex Solis, 119; Ministers Wild Cat, Victor Espinoza, 118, and Outta Here, Kent Desormeaux, 119.
Tom Knust, jockey agent for Desormeaux, said that he is trying to make arrangements from Japan for Outta Here's regular rider to fly here for the race.
Solis will ride Eye Of The Tiger, fifth-place finisher in the Kentucky Derby, for the first time. Possibles include Bullistic (112), Ender's Shadow (114), Jimmy O (114) and Roll Hennessy Roll (116).
The Affirmed serves as a prep for the $400,000 Swaps Stakes (gr. II) at 1 1/8 miles July 13.
