Gutierrez Wins 3 Stakes at Emerald Downs

Juan Gutierrez became the first rider in Emerald Downs' history to win three stakes in a single day on Sunday.

After winning the $50,000 Belle Roberts on Infernal McGoon and the $40,000 Chinook Pass Sprint on Badger K. Eli, Gutierrez etched his name into the record book by guiding Millenium Nugget to a victory in the $40,000 Captain Condo Stakes. in all, there were seven stakes run on Washington Cup Day.

"I don't know what to say now. I'm just happy to win," Gutierrez said.

Corvallis Dee, ridden by Kevin Radke, who won two stakes, captured the $100,000 Gottstein Futurity by 1 1/2 length over 7-5 favorite Harvard Avenue. Military Singer was third.

The final time for the 1 1/16-mile 2-year-old test was 1:43 3/5 on a fast track.

Bud Klokstad trains the Washington-bred gelding by Slewdledo for owner Art McFadden. Corvallis Dee earned $55,000 for his second win three starts. He was fourth, beaten by three lengths by Harvard Avenue in the WTBA Lads at Emerald Downs Aug. 30.

The 5-1 third choice in the field of 10 paid $12.40, $4.40 and $3.60. Harvard Avenue returned $3 and $3. Military Singer's show price was $6.80.
