Michelle Ferrari, who wrote the documentary "Seabiscuit" that aired on the Public Broadcasting System in April, was awarded an Emmy for outstanding writing for nonfiction programming.

"For an animal that's been dead for nearly half a year, Seabiscuit is making quite a comeback," she said.

The idea for the documentary was generated by the well-received book by Laura Hillenbrand on the unlikely equine hero, and was followed by a hit movie. The honor was part of the creative arts Emmy Awards presented Sept. 13. The work was produced for the American Experience series by Insignia Films Inc. and is in general video release.
