Christopher Ransom's Joe Bear blew out three furlongs in :37 Saturday morning at Belmont Park. The 3-year-old colt has post one in Sunday's $200,000 Jamaica Handicap (gr. IIT).

The move came at the end of a two-minute-lick type exercise.

"We just wanted to clear the cobwebs," said Roger Teal, assistant to trainer Phil Mitchell. "He went steady for six furlongs and (exercise rider Don Sainisbury) just let him quicken up the last two."

Joe Bear won three of four starts in England before he shipped to Arlington Park for the Secretariat (gr. IT), where he ran a strong second behind Kicken Kris at 20-1. He'll face 3-year-olds again in the Jamaica.

"He looks really well," Teal said. "He's grown since Chicago and he's finally starting to fill out. He's just a baby. He's a late foal and he's just starting to develop now."
