Prized Colt Tops Thursday's Keeneland Session

Blandford Bloodstock paid $155,000 for a son of Prized to top Thursday's session of Keeneland's September yearling sale. For the session, Keeneland reported 299 horses sold for $4,066,800, good for an average of $16,946 and a median of $11,000.At the corresponding session last year, 264 horses were sold for a gross of $4,106,600, which was an average of $15,555 with a median of $12,000. With two days left in the world's largest yearling sale, 2,580 horses have been reported as sold for $269,863,600: an average of $104,598 with a median of $42,000. At this point last year, the average was $81,180 and the median was $37,000.At the entire sale last year, the gross was $210,809,000 with an average of $71,850. The gross this year is already the second highest in the sale's history. In 2000, 3,313 horses brought $291,827,100.The session topper was consigned by Bruce Kline's Spendthrift Farm, agent. The dark bay or brown colt is the second foal out of the group I-placed Crazee Mental, a daughter of Magic Ring.
