A police cruiser splashes through the Inlet parking lot in Ocean City, Md., Thursday, as Hurricane Isabel hits the Atlantic coast.
The imminent arrival of Hurricane Isabel has forced Pimlico Race Course to cancel live racing for Thursday and Friday. Monmouth Park cancelled its card Thursday after three races.
"We had anticipated some winds this afternoon but once the forecast called for heavy rain moving in earlier than expected we had to make this decision," said Lou Raffetto, Chief Operating Officer of the Maryland Jockey Club. "We didn't want to get into the card and have an issue with the wind and rain. We thought it was in the best interest of everyone involved to cancel live racing for today and tomorrow in light of the timeline and its contemplated conclusion."
There will be simulcasting on both days at Pimlico and its sister track, Laurel Park. Live racing is expected to Pimlico Saturday. First post is 1:05 p.m.
Monmouth is scheduled to resume racing Friday.
