During Leads Solid Field for Jerome

(From NYRA report)

Of the four stakes races being presented Saturday at Belmont Park, the Jerome Handicap (gr. II) for 3-year-olds looks like the most competitive.

James McIngvale's During, who beat eventual Travers Stakes (gr. I) winner Ten Most Wanted in the July 13 Swaps Stakes (gr. II) at Hollywood Park, is the 118-pound highweight.

During made two starts in Saratoga, a sixth in the Jim Dandy Stakes (gr. II) and a respectable fourth in the King's Bishop Stakes (gr. I).

"We thought he ran very well in the King's Bishop," said Tonja Terranova, who along with husband, John, has overseen the training of During since he was sent to New York by trainer Bob Baffert. "Bob said he likes to be up near the lead, but not in a :43 3/5 half-mile. Hopefully, he'll settle well and he seems to like Belmont better than Saratoga, too."

Einar Robsham's Pretty Wild made an impressive return to the races on Travers Day when he romped in an entry-level allowance. Away for nearly 11 months with an injury, Pretty Wild lived up to his juvenile form when he ran solid seconds in the Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) and Belmont Futurity Stakes (gr. I).

Tafaseel, owned by Shadwell Stable, won twice at Belmont in the spring-summer meet and ran fourth in the Jim Dandy. His last start was a disappointment, beaten soundly in the Pennsylvania Derby (gr. III) over a sloppy track.
